About Maple Run Farms
A non-profit homestead in East Liberty, Ohio — built on a love of animals, land, and the people who care for both.
Started with a few birds and a lot of love
Maple Run Farms began in 2023 when Guy and Courtney Butts moved to a small property in East Liberty, Ohio with a simple idea: raise a few chickens, grow some of their own food, and slow down.
What started as a backyard flock quickly grew into something more. Neighbors asked questions. Schools wanted to visit. Rescue requests started coming in — ducks with nowhere to go, hens surrendered from situations they couldn't thrive in.
Rather than turn anyone away, Guy and Courtney chose to expand the mission. In 2024, Maple Run Farms began the process of formalizing as a non-profit organization in the state of Ohio, with a focus on education, rescue, and community connection.
Today the farm is home to a growing flock of chickens and ducks, each with their own story — and a small team of humans who care for them every single day.
What we stand for
Education
We open our farm to schools, families, and curious adults who want to learn where food comes from, how animals are cared for, and what it means to farm with intention.
Rescue
We take in chickens and ducks who have been abandoned, injured, or surrendered — giving them safety, proper care, and a place to live out their natural lives.
Sustainability
From composting to rotational grazing, we farm in ways that build healthy soil and reduce waste — modeling practices that anyone can adapt at any scale.
Community
Maple Run Farms is a gathering place. We believe rural knowledge is worth sharing and that neighbors looking out for each other — and for animals — makes everyone stronger.
